Must-have items for the perfect college student wardrobe

For some people, college is the perfect time to reinvent yourself. If you were a dork in high school, college is the ideal time to be who you always wanted to be, before you got stuck as your teenage persona. One way to do that is through your fashion choices and a whole new wardrobe – especially if you are moving out of state to somewhere with a different climate. Wherever you end up, here are some must-have items for the perfect college student wardrobe.

A good pair of jeans

Jeans are so versatile and can be dressed up or down as needed. A really nice pair of well-fitting jeans that flatter your shape and are comfortable to wear will be a staple item. Try a few different styles – skinny, bootcut, boyfriend, high-waisted – to see which suits you best.

A comfy hoodie

As much as you like to think that you will be up every morning, in time to do full hair and makeup, and put on your carefully planned outfit each day, there will be some times where that just won’t be the case. Perhaps you will have been up all night studying (or “studying”), or you just simply won’t have the time or energy. On these days you will be happy for an oversized hoodie in which to hide!

Leggings

You will probably live in leggings for your day-to-day outfits. They are comfortable and easy to pull on when you haven’t quite woken up yet! Be sure to have a few pairs of classic black leggings to pair with oversized shirts, but also don’t be afraid to experiment with more funky colors or athleisure-wear type leggings too.

Daytime dresses

If you’re feeling cute, you might want to rock a dress on campus to make a change from those jeans and hoodie days. In the fall, you can layer up your summer dresses with thick pantyhose, a cardigan, and a scarf to create a cozy but stylish look.

A Little Black Dress

Whether it’s for a date, a dance, or just a night out with friends, you can’t go wrong with a classic LBD. If you can’t afford a new outfit for various events while you are on a college student budget, remember that a little black dress is timeless and can be styled differently depending on accessories and shoes!

A few pairs of shoes

You do not need to take every pair of shoes that you own to college with you! Make sure you have some comfortable everyday shoes like Converse, that go with everything, as well as some cute ankle boots or Uggs for when you are trying to be cosy and bundled. A pair of heels for when you want to dress up and some slippers for the opposite are also both essentials.
College isn’t a fashion show, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t look and feel great while you get your degree. Try out that new style if you want to, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. As long as you have these staples, you’ll be okay!
