Meals you can easily make in your dorm room microwave

Cooking in college is unlikely to be a priority, between classes, socializing and (let’s face it) naps! Not to mention struggling with the mediocre equipment which usually consists of nothing more than a microwave and Uber Eats! Instead of just eating taking away every day, here are some fantastic ideas for meals you can make in your microwave.

Baked potatoes

Baked potatoes can make for a delicious and filling meal, perfect for lunch with a side salad, or dinner with more substantial toppings. You can cook regular potatoes or sweet potatoes in a microwave, but be sure to prick the skins with a fork a few times to allow the heat to escape – otherwise, you could end up with a fire hazard on your hands!

Egg dishes

Scrambled eggs can be made quickly and easily in a microwave and are the perfect addition to an English muffin with ham and cheese for a delicious breakfast sandwich. You can also make an omelet in a mug in the microwave, and experiment with additions such as chopped peppers and mushrooms. For an Insta-worthy brunch, make poached eggs in the microwave and add them on top of avocado and toast.

Cauliflower mac ‘n’ cheese

Mac ‘n’ cheese is a college student staple, but instead of just opening a pack of Kraft’s instant mac ‘n’ cheese, you can make your own cheap and tasty version. If you use frozen cauliflower, you can just use the amount you need for one person, and then just add cheese and heavy cream – yum!

Ratatouille

This meal is incredibly quick and easy to make, and no one will believe that it was cooked in the microwave. Just grab some vegetables (we love using cauliflower, potato, and carrots!) into a microwave safe bowl with chopped tomato, olive oil, water and a little bit of chili powder for 10 minutes and enjoy!

Salmon

It’s a good idea to check with your roommates if you are going to cook fish in the microwave, as we all know that can really stink things up. However, if you are able to get past the smell, you can make an incredible salmon in the microwave, and you won’t look back!

Egg fried rice

Can you believe that you can make a scrumptious veggie fried rice in the microwave? The perfect option for when you’re craving some fried rice but don’t want to order take out. You can pack this full of vegetables, such as bean sprouts, red pepper, and frozen peas, so you can assure your Mom you’re getting the adequate amount of daily servings!

Mug Cakes

The internet is absolutely full of different recipes for making delectable cakes and desserts using just a few ingredients. A great way to make friends in your dorm is to be the one person who knows how to whip up the best cake – and you can even do this in the microwave. Just be sure that your mug is microwave safe!
So instead of just settling for microwave ready meals, put your microwave to work with these recipe ideas and become the most popular person on campus!
