It seems as though all our lives are pointed towards college. As soon as a child is born, (and sometimes even before!) parents are saving up in college funds, and everyone has an opinion on where they should go or what they should major in. Everyone is pushing their own alma maters because that’s where they spent four of the happiest years of their lives. College is a big deal, and although it can be difficult, it is also an incredibly happy time of your life too. Here are some reasons why:
Freedom
There is something so amazing about your first taste of freedom! Some people will use this time to go a bit crazy, whereas others will just enjoy the possibility that exists when you don’t have to do everything under the watchful eyes of your parents. Having the freedom to do what you want, when you want it, is a source of excitement for everyone!
Friendships
The intensity of college will thrust you towards new friends in a way that you may not have experienced before. Going through something so formative means friendship bonds made during your college years are a lot closer than any other time. You will also meet people from all over the country, if not the world, and people whose lives are so different from your own which is a lot of fun!
Finding love
For a lot of us, falling in love at college is a dream, and for many, a reality! So many people find their soulmates during college and those of us who don’t get to enjoy college dating which, at the very least, makes for some pretty funny stories in the future! If you do find The One, however, you’ll enjoy experiencing this unique time of your lives with one another.
Learning
If you have chosen a major that you love, every day, although it might sometimes be hard and stressful, should have a little burst of happiness in it. Getting to spend time with likeminded people, leaning more about what you are passionate about is something pretty special and should lead to many happy memories. You will also learn a lot about yourself during this time, and although it won’t all be easy, it is something you should be able to look back on with fondness in the future.
Social life
Parties at college aren’t always the way they are portrayed in the films, and perhaps that’s not such a bad thing! That said, if you join a fraternity or a sorority, or really any kind of group, your social life is going to be bigger and better than ever! Before the world of 9-5 work days takes over your life, make the most of it and get involved in everything you can. Whether you are a fan of keg stands and mixers, or more at home with a board game night and a selection of cheeses, there will be other people into the same thing, and you can fill your nights with fun and socializing!
By the time you graduate college, you will be at least a little ready to go out into the big wide world. College is a whole lot of fun, but you can’t live that lifestyle forever (although some people do try!); however, it’s nice to look back and remember just how much fun it is!
