Success doesn't happen overnight – you have to trust the process

We all want to be successful in life, but sadly that success often does not come overnight. It can be frustrating to see some people get instant results or seemingly breeze past you on the career, or life, ladder. Don’t worry though, if you keep plugging away you’ll get there!

What is success to you?

Ask yourself what you believe success is. You need to know what you’re aiming for before you begin the journey. You might end up heading in the entirely wrong direction if you don’t have a plan on where you’re going. Once you get going in the right direction it’s important to realize that you won’t be able to just click your fingers and make yourself a success, you’ll be working hard for a long time to make it work.

Different paces

We all work at different paces, just look at your elementary or middle school development. Some kids were like a foot taller than others, while some kids were much smaller. It’s totally fine, and it just shows that it takes some people a little bit longer in getting there. The same can be said for success, sometimes you have to spend time not really getting anywhere, but that experience will stand you in good stead when you finally do.

Take a step back

If you feel as though you’ve been working yourself to the bone but getting nowhere then maybe take a step back and assess the situation. Why are you not progressing? Is it because there are no opportunities or is it something that you’re doing, or not doing? To become successful, you need to learn how not to do things as well as learning how to accomplish tasks. Look at what you have been doing and see if there are any obstacles that are easily removed, or if there’s some behavior that is holding you back.

Small goals

If you feel as though it’s taking too long to gain success think about making your targets smaller. Think of them as stepping stones to success and without them you’re going to have to take a leap which may or may not pay off. Build these steps into your everyday goals and keep focusing on improving all aspects of your life. Some of the wealthiest people in the world didn’t get there by having everything handed to them, and they had to work their hands raw to give them the platform for success.
Some of the most successful people in the world didn’t make it until they were much older in life than others. Not everyone is a child prodigy who earns their first million by 11. Stan Lee, creator of the Marvel Comic Universe, was 38 when The Fantastic Four came out, followed by Spider-Man and The X-Men. Vera Wang didn’t enter the fashion industry until she was 40 and Samuel L. Jackson had to wait until he was 43 to get a starring acting role. So there’s still time for all of us, we just have to put the work in!
