We mostly see them from behind the lens of the camera, or if you’re lucky, you can see them waving graciously at their public engagements. Whatever the situation, it’s always been a fascinating mystery of what the Royals are really like as people. When we do catch a glimpse of them caught off guard, it’s a brilliant sight to see. We so very often forget that, of course, the Royals are human just like us.
There are plenty of photos that capture the Royals in their very best light – looking happy and humanely normal, rather than all caught up in the traditions of Royalty. That’s when we really get to fall in love with them. Whether it’s a cheeky poking of the tongue, or moments of laughter, nowadays we often get photographs that show us just how much the Royals are like us. Whoopsie!
Whether it’s at the polo or a fancy dinner & dance, high-heels can be a bit of a nuisance for the women of the Royal Family to wear. They do of course allow any woman to look ever so more elegant, stylish, and 4 inches taller.
But there’s no doubt they aren’t so easy to wear comfortably. Kate Middleton is no stranger to this danger either, as here we see her get her heel stuck in a grate at a formal parade. Fear not, hubby Prince William comes to her rescue, and no damage is done. Phew!
Bit of a late night
The traditionality of Royal ceremonies and engagements are great, but let’s be honest, they must sometimes get rather tedious – especially when you have to sit through quite a fair few in your life. Well, this photo shows Prince William struggling a little to stay awake.
The photo was shot at the Anzac Day ceremony in April 2018, only a couple days after Kate had given birth to their third child – so no one can blame the man for feeling a little sleepy. A newborn baby is undoubtedly an excuse. After all, no parent can deny how much a late night of a screaming baby can take it out of you. Perhaps poor William forgot to have the well-needed coffee this morning.
A fun winter’s day
A bit of winter snow can bring a smile to anyone’s face – a joyful time to wrap up warm and head out for an afternoon of making snow angels, sledding downhill, and of course having snowball fights! Well, Kate and William prove here that they too enjoy these times with loved ones just as much as we do.
They’re seen here having a great laugh together in the snow – well Kate is at least – mostly at the expense of William! Kate clearly couldn’t help herself from throwing a little snowball at her hubby… And who can blame her? It’s just always so tempting when snow is all around you. He looks far from impressed – but we’re sure she got one thrown at her back. Prepare the ammo…Snowball fight!
On your marks, get set, GO!
The sibling relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William has always been an absolute joy to watch. They have given us so many moments of brotherly love, and we can never get enough! However, there’s no doubt that the two mischievous young boys would have been caught in some innocent little scraps as they grew up.
Even here as adult men they seem to be having a bit of competition. Just look at their faces. They are all trying their very hardest! It looks as though Harry is slightly in the lead though. Come on William you’re not far behind at all. This is a moment of pure determination. Nothing wrong with a little bit of healthy competition between siblings!

Prince Harry has always been a real charmer, and here in an adorably cute little moment with a little girl, he made us love him even more. At a volleyball match at the Invictus Games in Toronto 2017, Prince Harry teases the young daughter of a family friend called Emily Henson.
As the young girl reached out for a handful of popcorn, Prince Harry cheekily pulls the box away teasing her as though it’s his popcorn and she can’t have any. He’s giving us real annoying uncle vibes here where he just won’t stop winding you up! How could you Harry? It’s such an adorable moment that proves he’s just like all of us. One of Harry’s best moments!
Pulling faces
It’s never easy trying to control and keep two little children on their best behavior at important events – every parent always wishes you could have eyes on the back of your head to keep an eye on them all the time. Here we see Prince Harry as a little toddler pulling faces. On the Royal balcony at Buckingham, Harry takes his chance and gives us this naughty little pokey tongue face.
His mother Princess Diana looks horrified, but there’s nothing she can do at this point. This must have been television gold when watching it live. It’s really no surprise he pulled this face as a young boy, as even now, Prince Harry has a lovingly cheeky side to him. Boys will be boys!
Hold on tight
Prince Charles is always one to have a right laugh too. Here on a trip to New Jersey in 2012, we see him trying his best to hold on to his life at a rock climbing wall – grip tight Charles! Perhaps a suit and smart leather shoes were not the best choices of attire for physical activity.
Nonetheless, he looks like he’s having a lot of fun. You can see where the boys get their goofy side from can’t you…Their dad!
Nearly!
At the Royal Ascot parade in 2017, Kate and William were riding in a carriage with Prince Edward and Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex. In a slight mishap, Sophie lost her footing and nearly fell right over into the lap of the Duchess.
Luckily for Sophie, Kate caught her balance, and the two laughed it off greatly together with huge smiles on their faces. This could have gone terribly wrong, and we’re living for it.
Temper tantrum
Princess Charlotte is certainly an adorable little girl, but this funny photo from a family trip in 2017 proves any young toddler is going to have their own moments of misbehaving. We’re not sure what she was having a little stroppy moment about.
However, rather than losing her cool, Kate looks calm and composed. She manages to distract Charlotte from being any more naughty, and they continued to have more family fun. Patience is indeed a virtue for any mother.
More Harry cheekiness
On a trip to Dublin with wife Meghan, Harry gets caught in another cute fiasco with a child. When greeting the public, a little boy pulls on his beard playfully, and Harry takes it in great stride telling the boy “You’ll have a beard soon!”
Harry’s playful side means he certainly is great with kids, and we can’t wait to see even more adorable moments like this when he soon becomes a father himself in the next few weeks!
“Wingardium Leviosa”
At the Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio tour in 2013, William and Kate are seen stepping into the fantasy world of Potter and embracing their inner wizards. After being given a private studio tour where they even got to meet J.K.Rowling!
The couple is seen playfully drawing their wands at each other and acting out funny spells from the Harry Potter series. We’re not quite sure who won, but this is one wizarding duel we’d love to see again!
A little worse for wear
Whether it’s the bad camera angle, the rough lighting, or the camera invasion from the up close paparazzi, this photo isn’t the most flattering of the Royal couple is it?
On a fun night out at University together, this photo was taken before they were married. They’re seen here as a young student couple enjoying a night on the town. Everyone has the right to enjoy a late night of partying… Even the Royals!
Another tongue-poke moment
In this photo, Princess Charlotte is taking a leaf out of her uncle’s book and giving us another moment of cheeky face-pulling. At Harry and Meghan’s Royal Wedding in 2018, Princess Charlotte couldn’t help but get up to some toddler antics.
All while in the back of the car pulling up to the ceremony. She’s seen here pulling a rather similar face as to what Prince Harry did when he was her age. Like uncle – like niece.
A delicious surprise
One thing that Prince Harry is particularly good at is communicating with the enormous crowds of admirers that flock to see him and the rest of his family. He really embraces every moment. In this photo, he looks as though he is in heaven.
Probably surprised at the tray of delicious chocolate cupcakes one admirer has handed to him. A face of pure joy! Looks like he knows what he’s certainly having later with his evening cup of tea.
Melting ice cream
Being given lots of delicious freebie sweet treats is one of the best parts of their Royal jobs. In this photo, we see Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall struggling to eat her melting vanilla ice cream gracefully without making a mess.
The photographer certainly caught her off guard, and she looks as though she just couldn’t help herself from digging in! We think you still have a bit on your nose Camilla.
“Vroom, vroom”
This hilarious photo is another of Prince Harry’s silly moments – they really do just keep on coming! Here we see him brilliantly miming a motorcycle and playfully messing around with a friend. It’s pretty much guaranteed that with that facial expression there was a funny noise to go with it too.
If only we could have heard the impersonating sound to go with the hand action. This type of buffoonery proves just how silly the Royals can be too!
“Say cheese!”
We have seen some beautiful official family photos over the years, but this causal one here seems to beat them all! As the family enjoyed the celebrations at Prince Charles’ 70th birthday bash, this photo seems to catch all of them off guard.
They all have great big grins on their faces, and it’s precisely what we like to see from them all. This heartwarming shot shows just how they are like every other family underneath all the regalness.
A funny dance
On a Royal engagement to Mexico, Prince Charles is seen having a good ol’ laugh with the locals. In this photo we see him embracing the Mexican culture and joining in with the shenanigans of the traditional Mexican clog dance.
They all look like they were having a lot of fun together. It is photos like this that discount the opinions that the Royals take themselves far too seriously. They seem like they are down-to-earth people just like us.
A snake charmer
The beaming smiles on their faces in this photo is heart-warming. We really do love seeing the brotherly love between William and Harry. On a 2010 Royal Trip to Botswana, the Princes are seen joking around while holding a rather large snake around their necks.
Be careful boys! The snake doesn’t look too pleased with Harry purposefully putting his head towards his brothers face – we’re sure the snake would have no qualms in attacking a Prince if he needed to.
Out of the park!
We got a little taste of their sports skills when Kate and William decided to join in on a cricket match in 2014. The couple ventured onto the pitch to play around a little.
Unfortunately, William pitched the ball a little too hard. Kate had to swerve out the way to make sure she remained conscious at least – her face of pure terror says it all. William certainly needs to brush up on his cricket skills.
Hello in there!
On a trip to South Africa in 2015, Prince Harry continued his constant goofing around when he and his brother joined a match of barefoot touch rugby. After showing off his rugby skills to delighted onlookers, Harry did something hilarious.
He poked his head through the head of the shark mascot and said hello. Whoever was inside of that suit must have got the shock of their life! Harry really is a playful Prince, and we love it.
A family of poking tongues
Being a cheeky, tongue-poking toddler definitely seems to run in the family! In 2015, at the Trooping of the Color ceremony, Prince George can be seen giving us another silly face.
He looks like he was having a fun time with his family members. And made sure he had no reservations in showing us how much he was enjoying himself. One day he may well make a lovely King – certainly a cheeky one, at least.
Mexican wave
William and Harry were like any other young lads when they were growing up through their teenage years – and this photo at a sporting event proves just how fun-loving they were.
They can be seen starting a Mexican wave with the stadium. And this type of amusement is what we like to see within the family – it proves just how human they are. Plus, how great would it be to say you’ve joined in on a Royal Mexican wave?
A little splash
At the London Marathon in 2017, the Royals were seen cheering on the runners at the sideline. This photographer managed to catch a fantastic moment when Harry pulled a prank on his brother by sneaking up behind William to squeeze his water bottle over his face.
William can be seen laughing ferociously, so you can only imagine how much Harry must be laughing too. We love to see funny moments like these.
Now we know where they get it from!
The head of the family Queen Elizabeth also has her own tongue-poking moments, as here she is seen pulling the face herself. HRH is rarely caught off guard nowadays, but this photo perhaps gives of evidence of where the youngsters of the family get their tongue-poking from.
What makes it even more hilarious is that it was snowing this day… Anyone else think that she could have been trying to catch snowflakes with her tongue? C’mon we’ve all done it!
A smooth ride
Prince Charles is known for his love of cars, and here he is seen driving his new Aston Martin on the Royal grounds. He certainly likes to think of himself as a James Bond type figure, wearing his smart suit and cool shades to make sure he even looks the part!
Being a notable environmentalist, Charles told Aston Martin that he would only purchase the new car with them if it were eco-friendly – believe it or not but it turns out they engineered the car to run on a certain grown up drink.!
The future King
In this photo taken at Houghton International Horse Trials, Prince George can be seen having his face wiped clean from mom Kate after he delved face-first into a delicious ice cream. It’s so fascinating to watch a future King grow up through his toddler years.
The older he gets, the more exciting it becomes to watch him turn into the future ruler of England. When he’s older, he can look back on photos like these and see how cute he was.
Birds of prey
This photo is perfect timing and shows just how scary big birds can be, even to the Royals! When visiting the 2015 Sandringham Flower Show, Prince Charles and Camilla were seen watching a show with a bald eagle called Zephyr.
They were invited up to participate in the show, but looking at this photo, it seems like they may have got a little too close for comfort. One flap of the wings and Zephyr the eagle had the Royals terrified.
A shocking reaction
Kate Middleton always looks so gracefully beautiful – rarely caught off guard with her pristine hair and natural elegance – somehow most photos of her turn out to be rather flattering. However the paparazzi follow the Royal family basically 24/7.
This means that caught-off-guard photos like this one, taken at London’s Natural History Museum in 2013, are inevitable. We’re not quite sure who or what made her pull this face, but she sure does look shocked.
The wedding dance
Prince George sure is a little character! Taken at the Wedding of Sophie Carter, Kate’s friend, this photo shows the Prince playing about and being the mischievous young boy we all love to watch him be.
Prince George is now fives years old, and here he is seen doing one of two options – either doing the robot dance or imitating a soldier march. He is always seen with a big cheeky smile on his face, and he is indeed turning into a man just like his father.
A high-school play
This is one major throwback photo from when Kate was in a school play with none other than Andrew Alexander – who plays Sir John Bullock in the hit British aristocratic-drama Downton Abbey. In fact, it’s rumored that during their time together at school, Kate had a major crush on Andrew.
However, she was far too shy to tell him of her crush. Well, we are certainly glad she didn’t because who knows what would have happened? We can’t imagine her being anyone other than our Duchess of Cambridge now.
Joyful bubbles
Another fantastic photo of Prince George is this one of him in awe of the bubbles. All kids love popping bubbles, running around frantically trying to squish them in their hands, and this is the type of photo that we love to see of the Royal youngsters.
It’s a wonderfully shot photograph and one that captures just how amazing the childhood him and his siblings share together. He is a sweet and innocent young boy – and in the future, he shall have to act out his duties as the heir to the throne.
Fun and laughter
Official photos of the Royal Family tend to be rather formal and deliberately posed – so it’s great that some paparazzi photographs can provide us with some lovely shots of the pure joyous moments in their lives.
This photo shows William, his wife, and his brother, in a moment of laughter. It’s heartwarming to see them in such great spirit. What were they laughing about? Something obviously quite hilarious as the cheery looks on their faces is priceless.
A beautiful couple
Watching the relationship blossom between Prince William and Kate Middleton over the years has been wonderful. It’s been a love affair for us to remember for centuries.
Photos like this one are particularly beautiful as they show the couple in their spur-of-the-moment romantic moments that are so charming to see. Though public display of affection may be frowned upon by the palace, these moments caught on camera are essential for us to admire the Royals as the humans they are.
“Mom, you’re embarrassing me.”
Kate does seem like such a great mom – and this photo shows just how much she loves her children. Here we see her maternal love caught at its very best, holding the hand of little Princess Charlotte and gently sweeping Prince George’s hair into place.
No matter how young you are, you’ve always got to be looking your best as a Royal youngster! However, Prince George doesn’t seem too impressed with his mom messing with his hair. It probably won’t be too long until he starts to get embarrassed by his mom’s motherly instinct.
Selfie Fever
As the Royals walk through the crowds of screaming people, they often stop for a little chat or a shaking of the hand, but of course, now they are often stopped for a cheeky selfie. This is a selfie taken by a young woman that surely got plenty of likes when she shared it on her Instagram.
Prince William and Prince Harry are two particular Royals who stand for the newfound modernism in Royal fever. Their laid-back style to Royalism is a special part of the new millennium, and it’s great to see how they are adapting what it means to be a Royal to continue inspiring future generations.
Getting involved
Before their relationship was tarnished with rumors of a Royal feud, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle would often attend various events together. During this particular trip to Wimbledon, it seems as though they got pretty involved in the game in front of them.
Were they discussing tactics? Were they placing their bets on who they thought would win? Or were they talking about the tiny mushrooms that were on their plate for dinner the previous night? Oh, to be a fly on the wall during this conversation!
The ride of their lives
Although it may seem as though Prince Harry and Prince William spend their days enacting their royal duty, their late mother gave them the chance to experience real thrills when they were younger.
In fact, Princess Diana would often take her sons on trips to McDonald’s and theme parks, and the two boys would take the ride of their lives. Although these two looked pretty calm while they were on this rollercoaster, you can just about see a glint of fear in their eyes. We guess they are human, after all.
Falling all over the place
Kate Middleton is no stranger to letting her perfectly blow-dried hair down, and she has done this on many occasions. While on a night out with her friends, Kate donned a sparkly ensemble and some leg warmers for a night on some roller skates.
While it may seem as though the Duchess of Cambridge is perfect in every way, it seems as though she’s not quite perfected the whole standing-up-on-her-skates thing. She fell over countless times over the course of this evening, and spent very little time on her feet…
Taking a sneak peek
Prince Harry has always been a cheeky chap, and he was just as cheeky when he was younger. While on a fishing trip with his father, Harry decided to take a sneak peek under his kilt. Of course, we hope that Prince Charles wasn’t abiding by the unofficial rules when it comes to this particular garment.
Considering traditional Scottish attire maintains that you shouldn’t wear underwear under a kilt, we have no doubt about the fact that Harry would have had the fright of his life if this was the case.
Going, going, scone!
When you look at the Queen, she always looks perfectly prim and proper. Her hair is always perfect, her makeup is sophisticated and classy, and she holds herself in an impressive manner.
However, it seems as though she just can’t contain herself when she’s given the chance to have a few scones in her life. We can only assume that one scone was filled with cream and jam, while the other filled with jam and cream, and she just couldn’t decide which one she wanted.
