Despite what the educational system tells you, University isn’t always for everyone. The leap of faith you have to take after you graduate from school can be quite rightly very daunting, so it’s important that you weigh up your options with a level-head.
If you think University might not be the right choice for you, then not to worry! There’s an endless number of other pathways you can take in order to get where you want to be in life. Plus, no more exams! Here’s a list of what we think are the best jobs you can get without having to get a degree.

Web Designer/Developer

There’s no other industry moving faster than the online world right now. Although many digital-tech jobs require degrees, there are a few that don’t. If you fancy yourself as a creative type with a knack for computing, perhaps web development is for you? This kind of work is less about what you know and the education you have, and more about what you can actually produce. Building up for your portfolio and skillset is key! First things first though…you need to get your head around coding. Are you up for the challenge?

Air Traffic Controller

Training for this job is notoriously hard, perhaps even harder than a lot of degree modules out there! To be certified, you have to pass the testing process with flying colors. So if this sounds like a bit of you, make sure you are prepared to study hard and put in the effort. You’re also required to have exceptional concentration levels and the ability to cope well under pressure. But despite all this hard work, it always pays off! The job offers fantastic pay, with those at the highest-levels getting up to $150,000 a year.

Realtor

Those in real estate property can earn some really big bucks. Instead of having to get a degree, there are numerous courses you can take in order for you to build on your skills and understand what it takes. Being a realtor is about talking the talk, and walking the walk. You have to be personable, responsible, and have a natural flair in sales and negotiation.

Police Officer

Not only is being a police officer extremely rewarding, but you can also earn a lot of money too. If you handle stressful situations like a pro, and have a strong motivation to protect and take care of the community around you, then there is no better job! Being a police officer is an exciting and unique experience, offering you the chance to help others and even save lives. If you love feeling in control and thrive on authority, then make the most of it and join the forces.

Financial Advisor

Getting into the finance sector isn’t exactly the most exciting prospect, but it can lead to a whole host of different opportunities across the industry, including insurance, investment, or accountancy. If you’re trustworthy, good with numbers, and have a strong business-mindset, then perhaps becoming a financial advisor will be a good route for you to take. Salaries can vary, but a lot of the time you can work self-employed, earning great money on commissions when you have built a big enough client base.
No degree? No problem. There’s so many alternatives to University which could actually be a much better option for you to reach your goals, faster too. Be open-minded and take the time to think about what kind of route you want to take. Trust yourself. The world is your gourmet oyster buffet. As long as you remain driven, devoted, and willing to work hard, then you will be able to succeed in a lot more jobs than you think you can.
